OUTLINE:

Unless you work with data in a specific field regularly you have to be a confident statistician to challenge it. Many governors do not have that background or skill so this session explores how governors can become confident enough to challenge and evaluate the data they are presented with. Albert Einstein said “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough”. In this session we will consider how to use this quote as a guide to support and challenge our school leaders, both primary and secondary.

DESCRIPTION:

This interactive session will cover:

  • How and why data is presented to governors
  • Questions to ask that will clarify the data and its interpretation
  • What is meant by triangulation and how it links to the governor’s role
  • Data terminology explained – Attainment and Progress / Progress 8
  • How to monitor and evaluate the data and information presented

By the end of the session participants will:

  • Have a much clearer understanding  of data and how it’s used
  • Have the confidence to challenge the data and its interpretation
  • Know how to triangulate and provide evidence of impact
  • Be able to recognise and explain data trends over time
  • Be prepared to present evidence of impact to stakeholders

AUDIENCE:

Anyone in governance and school Senior Leadership who is passionate about School Improvement and improving outcomes for children.
