Top tips for effective monitoring in a virtual world

The Spring Governors Forum was held on Tuesday 2nd March 2021 at 6.15pm on Zoom and examined how governors monitor and oversee all aspects of their school.

It will covered:-
– what governors should be monitoring and why
– how governors can monitor without going into school
– what questions we should be asking about remote learning?
– what virtual monitoring do we want to keep doing?
– how do we hear the voice of the child?

The session was be led by Jane Lewis who has been a governor for 18 years in a variety of schools. She was designated as a National Leader of Governance (NLG) in 2012 and has served as an NLG Advocate & Regional Champion.
She is a MAT Board Director at SALT (Sentamu Academy Learning Trust) in Hull. She is a Governor of Archbishop Holgate’s CE Academy in York. She is Chair at Kingswood Parks Primary which moved from RI to Good in December 2019.
Jane was part of the team who wrote the current DfE guidance on External Reviews of Governance (ERGs). She trains others on conducting ERGs. She has undertaken dozens of ERGs for schools across several RSC regions and specialises in ERGs for Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs). She delivers training on governance and works with Boards of MATs, schools and charities.
She has developed a suite of on-line tools, including a Self-Review Tool, which Boards can use to improve Governance.
She has a background in the private sector and is a Director of Together People Ltd, a leadership and organisational development consultancy. She has 25 years’ experience as a charity trustee.
